A glimpse at our everyday life on April 10…
The tenth actually started on the ninth for us. David had been out of town all day (on the 9th) and I let the littles stay up late to wait for their Daddy who had been gone since 5:30 am (he left while they were sleeping). Needless to say, we all overslept on Wednesday the 10th. Well, except for David. When I awoke an hour after my alarm was supposed to sound, he was all ready up and making breakfast & feeding the littles. ::swoon:: That man is the bee’s knees.
After I realized that my alarm clock never even went off (I promise…it really didn’t) and I realized that I was an hour later to rise than I had intended, my first thought was to scratch exercise. But I’m trying to not let myself make excuses and I jumped on the treadmill anyway! I’ve started listening to podcasts while walking and have found that it makes it go by so quickly. LOVE, love, LoVe podcasts so that’s pretty motivating to not skip a day also! (I listened to Simple Mom podcasts on this particular day).
ignore the dust behind the green curtain (said in my best Wizard of Oz voice)
So by now, I’m running way late since I started way late but I’ve decided that I am not going to stress. We homeschool and our principal is ok with delayed start days.
But before we can even hit the books, I have a lot to do! And I’m not going to stress.
Y’all…the tenth was one gloomy day and that is so not good for pictures…especially in an all ready dark house…
The coffee pot starts to brew. That will usually motivate me to finish up some before school chores since I won’t let myself have a cup until I finish the chores. It appeared that it was going to be a gloomy day so I set out some bright mugs for myself and my 13 year old coffee drinking son.
Laundry had to go out to be washed and the dog ran up in anticipation of a little play time. I was happy to oblige.
Today was declared a light school day since we were off to a way late start. That’s the beauty of having a Friday catch up day in our plans. As I put on makeup, Abby wanted to read to me. The older kids did independent school lessons.
Putting on makeup is a stop and go kind of thing since the children bring school lessons and questions to me. The two littlest ones even had an impromptu fractions lesson as we discussed “cutting a lime into quarters”.
Makeup and hair are finally done! Then I look outside. It’s drizzling. Yeah, don’t know why I straightened the hair. Oh well!
It’s all ready time for lunch. (I am running way behind today! But I’m not going to stress.) We cook, eat, and the older boys get ready for swim while I start prepping for supper.
The littles and I drop the older boys off for swim team practice. Their Daddy will pick them up and bring them home. Sometimes during swim practice, we run errands now, sometimes we sit and chat with our friends, but today we head home.
When we enter the house, I put a little cup of tea on to steep while the littles all find an activity to play. I spend a few minutes decluttering the shoe shelf while the tea steeps. Then I get a call to come sit and cuddle. Will do, my little man…
A cup of tea, an afternoon snuggle, a little rest…that’s my kind of afternoon.
We don’t sit for long before we head out to play before the thunderstorms rolling in keep us inside. The homemade rope swing in the back gets a little action.
And we cook with dried beans and peas
And we invent things.
I play here and there, wash dishes, play, fold laundry, play…all in a day’s work! ::smile::
And before you know, Daddy is home! He and the kiddos head out to spend time together.
And me? I spend a little time in the quiet.
Soon the family will return but before they come, I hear a weird sound coming from outside…
And not too long after, I hear the sounds of my family returning home.
That, my friends, is just a little glimpse at an ordinary day in our home well…minus the hail…we don’t see that every day but the rest is pretty ordinary.
