garden notes {week 16}

Remember how I couldn’t remember what week it is for my garden posts?  Well, I checked and it’s week 16 all together for the year.  I think.  So as long as I check back to the previous week’s post, my tired momma brain should be able to keep up with the counting of the week.  Maybe.

Anyway, it is week 16 in the garden and it is springing to life!  I finally got everything planted.  We won’t discuss that it was just yesterday that I planted the last of my tomatoes and how incredibly late that is for Louisiana.  So my tomato crop might not be what I want but who knows…  It might surprise me!

What else are we finding in the garden?

April 22, 2013 059 I can not believe how many black berry blooms we have!  It is unbelievable.  Now to keep the birds at bay this summer.  I see a battle that might be going on with us and the birds.

I do believe I am most excited about the peaches.  Are there many things that taste better than a fresh peach?  I can’t think of many.

We added this row of fencing to have extra space to plant the tomatoes (36 of those babies!) and to slow the dog down from sprinting through the garden as he chases squirrels.  Even with the fence, he took out two tomato plants (and a few pepper plants before the fence).  Can you see my tiny baby tomatoes?  I’m contemplating going to the store and buying some larger starts since these are tiny.  I do have some Romas (store bought) in a raised bed that are looking good though!

You can’t win them all when it comes to gardening, can you?

April 22, 2013 065 I don’t know how the potatoes are doing below the ground but they are looking good above.  We will still put one more layer of boards on this box to reach 12 inches high.  As the plants grow, we shovel a layer of leaf mulch followed by a layer of composted soil.  I’ll let you know how it goes when we harvest.

The grapes are starting to reach out for our little outdoor porch!  What a cozy place that will be this summer!

April 17, 2013 043 I envision that this will be a beautiful little outdoor porch this summer as I sit here with my iced tea surrounded by flowers and in the shade of the grape vines.  {sigh}

How does your garden grow?

May your day be filled with garden blessings,
