The city chicks ~

April 27, 2011 043

Two weeks ago, I started this post about our little city chicks and then got distracted by everyday life.  The picture above is two of the chicks two weeks ago and now…

They have grown so much!  We haven’t finished their coop and run yet so they just go out during the day and stay under the coop for now.  They sure do love going outside!  We go out on our school breaks and visit with our fine feathered friends.

Everyone likes to take his or her chicken out of the pen and babysit them as they peck their ways around the yard.  (I’m scared to leave them out unattended because we have witnessed hawks catching prey in our neighbor’s yard.)

They are so much fun to watch too.  The other day I was sitting in a chair while the kids swam with the chickens to my right and Baby Boy carrying loads of dirt around the yard.  I was as happy as a chicken chasing a June Bug!

The big guy above has me a bit worried because I think it might be sick.  Tonight I had separated it from the others and Baby Boy went in to check on it.  I heard his sweet little voice say, “It’s gonna be ok, Big Guy.”  My heart melted.

We all are very new to the chicken scene and it’s totally been a learning process for us.  There are many places on the internet with great information.  A few of my favorites are:

 Backyard Chickens

My Pet Chicken

The City Chicken

Success with Poultry

Tilly’s Nest

We’ve been having fun with our city chicks and I plan on sharing some our adventures with them in the near future!
