One of our family traditions is to have a polar express night.
Once the kids are in their pajamas and about to hop into bed, we let them know that it is polar express night. This results in shouts of joy as everyone bundles up and heads out to the van!
Sometimes we grab a hot chocolate as we leave the house but this year everyone wanted milkshakes. (We have warm & cold days in December. This particular day was not very cold so everyone wanted a cold drink instead of hot cocoa.)
We ride around the city and look at the lights. This year, my friend told me of a house where the lights were set to music on the radio. The kids loved that house.
We went across the river to a neighbor city where we found this Santa that would wave to passing cars. We had to keep going back to see that Santa over and over and over again.
Then our little van headed home with some sleepy kids and one who was a little sad. As we pulled into the driveway, Baby Boy said, “No, no, no! I want to see lights.”
He wasn’t ready for his polar express night to end!
