~Emma’s 7th birthday~

pretty girl

Emma Grace

May 30, 2003

Weight: 7 pounds, 8 ounces

Length:  18 inches

I view May 30, 2003 as a day where God granted me one of the deepest desires of my heart.  I had longed for a daughter since I was just a young girl myself and on that day, God made me the mommy to a little girl.

From the moment that she entered the world via a planned c-section (due to two previous c-sections), I knew that she was different from my two boys.  How did I know this?  Well, she had the loudest, highest sounding cry I had ever heard out of one of my babies.  I have always said that Emma entered the world with gusto and she has been living her life with that same gusto & energy ever since her birth.

2nd b'day

I’ve shared about my children’s births and since this was a planned c-section, it was pretty much by the book and uneventful.  (To read our other birthday posts and birth stories, please go here.)  I could not really tell you much about her birth though I could tell you about going back to the hospital five weeks later with kidney stones and more surgery for that…but I won’t bother you with those details.  What I do remember about Emma’s birth was that I was absolutely thrilled to have a daughter.

And yes, I decked her out in everything pink.  I love pink so it was no problem for me to have a child covered in pink fluff.  I had waited a long time for a daughter and I wanted to make sure that the whole world knew that I had a little bit of sugar and spice and everything nice in my arms.

Picture 291 There are so many things that I love about Emma.  Today, I am going to list seven of the things that I love most about her.

1.  Emma is fun to be around.  She is the child that people like to like.  She talks to others, she plays well with others…she is just a good friend to others.

Picture 309 2.  Emma is full of life.  There is never a dull moment with her.  She came into the world ready to go.  She is still always raring to go until about 8:30 pm and then she is totally ready to sleep.  She is my only child who will crawl into bed and fall asleep before I tell her to go.

Emma's 4th 3.  Emma loves pretty things.  She loves to paint nails and fix hair.  She loves to decorate her room and design clothes for her dolls using things around the house.  She loves to make things pretty.

4.  Emma loves nature.  She can be such a girly girl and such a tomboy at the same time.  She loves pretty clothes and painted nails yet she will pick up a slug too.

Album 5-20-2009 021 5.  Emma is a born entertainer and performer.  The other evening as I walked out of church someone asked me if I  had seen what Emma was doing.  (yeah, my mind went “uh-oh”) They told me that she was standing on the cab of her daddy’s truck singing songs to everyone in the parking lot.  I told them that I wasn’t the least bit surprised.  Everything is a stage to Emma and there is usually a “microphone” in her hand.  I will not be surprised if she sings, dances, or acts one day.

Emma's 7th 6.  Emma is very friendly and rarely meets a stranger.  She will carry on conversations with people very easily.  This amazes me because I am not a small talk person.  I have to warm up to a situation before I am comfortable.  Emma, on the other hand, is just comfortable.  She is who she is and she is just fine with that!  DSCN4309

7.  Emma is grace in motion.  She is quite an athlete.  She can run quickly and she loves gymnastics.  She can even beat her older brothers or mom in soccer.  And to watch her do these things is beautiful because she is so graceful.

I am so thankful for my daughter.  As I was writing this post, I realized that she is turning into a young lady right before my very eyes.  God has blessed me with the treasure of a wonderful daughter.  May I care for and treasure her as she grows into a beautiful woman of God.

  2. She is a beautiful little girl - and you are very blessed to have her! As the mom of two boys, I can definitely understand why you wanted to surround her in pink! I'd do the same thing. I'm praying for granddaughters someday!

Your vacation photos look really neat and it looks like you had a good time.

    Blessings,
    Caroline
